Addition to Private Residence
Concord, MA

This 1960's development house was remodeled and added to in the 1980's. When the current owners purchased it in 2004 it was more for the setting - the end of a cul-de-sac, on 2.6 acres overlooking a private pond - than the house itself. Their desire was to create a New England Farm House, one that had “a history”, that had been added on to over time. A future in-law apartment, workshop, garage, and storage space was in the program, as well as a large porch for sitting and enjoying the pond, and a screen porch for entertaining and dining.

The final design included renovation of the original garage (which had a second floor added in 1980' renovation) to resemble a New England Barn and new construction of ‘a later addition’ of an English Barn. The porch was added after then entry was changed and then the bay window (with window seat inside) added. A new screened porch was added on the rear, directly off of the Kitchen and Dining area, with a new alcove for the bed in the Master Bedroom added over the screened porch. Future remodeling will transform the interior of the Family Room (left end in rear photo) into the appearance of a converted barn with loft space.

These photos show the progress, from the 1980's structure through completion of work as of July 2011; landscaping (including elimination of the circular driveway) will be completed in the Fall of 2011. A pergola will be added at the right end of the house in the Spring of 2012.
